  • Kenya Airways
Kenya Airways (KQ) is today the leading regional carrier operating from its JKIA hub in Nairobi, Kenya. Established in 1977, Kenya airways underwent a commercialization and privatization process in 1996, attracting a strategic patnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to become Africa’s first privatized flag carrier.

KQ has completed the first phase of its 10-year fleet renewal programme, expected to end in 2004. The new Boeing 777-200, with a capacity of 320 passengers, is the airline’s flagship for long-haul destinations, serving routes to Europe and Asia. Last year KQ took delivery of three Boeing 767-300 Extended Range 221-seater aircraft, and acquired two Boeing 737-700 jets. Another two B767-300 were leased and the Airbus A310 fleet retired. The new acquisitions raised KQ’s fleet to 20 aircraft.

KQ has code-sharing agrements with KLM, Precision Air (a private Tanzania airline), Northwest Airlines, Rwanda Air and Air Malawi. It also operates its cargo services under the new identify of Kenya Airways Cargo, a new division fully integrated into the airline’s commercial department.
